Nelson has been offered the exciting opportunity to host Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival in 2026 - pending the successful hosting of two major competitions leading up to Te Matatini. Kapa haka groups from top of the south schools came together yesterday for the day-long event, which saw some schools competing, others taking part just for experience, and others watching for inspiration. It was first held in Auckland at the Aotea Centre and has travelled around the country every two years until Covid-19 saw the cancellation of the 2020 competition.
